FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Unique Business Advisory Centre for Northern Ontario
SMEs Opens In Timmins

Timmins, Ontario – June 26, 2006 – Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Northern Ontario are set to benefit from a unique business advisory centre that has opened its doors in Timmins.

The Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM) – Timmins, is a first-of-its-kind, free business advisory “hub,” which has been launched to provide business advisory and mentoring services to companies within the “705” area code – including major centres like Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins, and remote communities as far north as the coast of James Bay.

Working in partnership with Ken Petersen and Randy Harris of the Timmins-based Quantum Management Group, ISCM-Timmins will focus on helping SMEs with their business challenges and growth issues. In addition to business mentoring, its services include providing links to government and other funding programs, and facilitating networking opportunities among businesses and partners. Its seasoned mentors – who specialize in business, financial, legal, sales, marketing and branding issues – understand the particular issues facing Timmins and other Northern Ontario organizations.

“A lot of businesses in Northern Ontario have never experienced consulting services,” says Ken Petersen, a partner in Quantum Management Group. “Our centre provides a cost-effective vehicle for companies to get answers to the more complicated questions that arise when you’re trying to grow a business.”

Some of the unique business challenges facing companies in remote areas include difficulty in accessing services, trouble finding the right employees, and higher transportation costs related to moving inventory, says Petersen. “Northern Ontario is experiencing phenomenal growth right now,” he explains. “By leveraging our own in-house expertise at Quantum Management with the expert advice and services of ISCM, we are helping smaller companies to navigate that growth curve successfully.”

A not-for-profit Canadian organization, ISCM-Timmins builds on the success of the Markham, Ont.-based ISCM, which – since its creation in 2003 – has helped more than 350 companies in the technology, biotech, automotive, agriculture, manufacturing, export, and general business industries. The Quantum Management Group is an operational management firm founded by a group of executives, management consultants, and functional experts with more 150 years of collective corporate, consulting and business expertise in a variety of industries including forestry, mining, manufacturing, and technology.

To access ISCM-Timmins’ services, companies can register on-line at www.iscm.ca or call ISCM at 1-866-905-ISCM (4726) x 2711. There is no charge for general services. For more extensive projects such as preparing business and marketing plans, ISCM-Timmins will refer businesses to third-party resources where a fee would apply.
